11 Durability & Repair

Run hard.
Maintain smart.

Every Standard run reduces your shoe’s durability. Repair regularly: a damaged shoe earns less, and waiting too long can stop it completely.

The cost of using a shoe

Performance needs maintenance

Durability is a Standard World mechanic applied to Cadence runs.

Every counted minute lowers the active shoe’s condition. As durability falls, PACE earnings fall with it. Repairing uses PACE and becomes more expensive as the shoe levels up.

A universal wear rate

Every minute leaves a mark

Type, rarity and level do not change the rate. Every shoe loses durability at exactly the same speed.

Automatic protectionThe run stops before the next minute if the shoe cannot cover its durability cost.

Durability never drops below zero and never rises above 100.

The earning curve

Repair before 50

The first half declines gradually. Crossing below 50 creates a deliberate sharp drop, giving the player a clear maintenance threshold.

Manageable decline

The shoe still earns, but every missing point reduces the result.

20–49.99

Severe penalty

PACE falls much faster. Repairing becomes strategically urgent.

0–20

Emergency floor

Earnings remain at only 4% until the shoe can no longer run.

The durability factor affects PACE only. It does not affect Fortune scoring and must not be confused with rarity-based Shoe Wear.

Why Expert earns more

Free Energy or stronger returns

The World coefficient compensates for the way Energy is funded. It belongs to the PACE formula—not to durability itself.

Standard World×1.10

Energy recovers for free

The player receives automatic Energy, but the active shoe loses durability and must be maintained with PACE.

Expert World×1.45

Energy is player-funded

Fuel is no longer free. The player fills the Energy Vault by permanently recycling shoes, while the daily spend limit reopens across the same four UTC slots; eligible PACE earnings therefore receive the higher coefficient.

The Expert coefficient is about 32% higher than the Standard coefficient. The complete earning formula remains in Chapter 09 — Running & Earning PACE.

Repair on your terms

Choose how much to restore

In Standard, the player chooses the number of points to repair. The normal journey is designed around Common shoes, so the player mainly needs to follow the level rate shown here.

Common repair costPoints × level rateReductions are applied afterward.

Level 5–90.36
Level 10–140.40
Level 15–190.44

Special case

A player who brings a higher-rarity shoe into Standard—for example through a direct Marketplace purchase—can still use it there. Its repair receives the rarity multiplier defined by the game, but this is not the normal Standard progression path.

Protection and savings

Three tools. Three different jobs.

These items change wear or repair, but none replaces the need to understand the shoe’s condition.

Repair Card +5

Restores five durability points for free. The game warns the player if some of the value would be wasted.

Before entering Expert

Expert stops wear.
It does not erase debt.

Moving to Expert never repairs an already damaged shoe. Any shoe below 100 remains unusable until it is restored completely.

In Expert, partial repair is disabled: the player pays once, restores the shoe to 100 and closes durability permanently for that shoe.

Once restoredDurability stays at 100 forever
Entering Expert is never blocked. The confirmation screen shows every damaged shoe, its repair price and the total debt, so the player can make the decision with full information.
One condition never changes

Forge requires 100 durability

Both parent shoes must be fully repaired before a Forge—whether the player is still in Standard or has already entered Expert.
